Two magnificent days of sharing and discussing have shown that there is a clear need and interest in taking the conversation forward and begin an open process to co-create a Deal for Climate and Social Justice in Spain, inspired to by the Green New Deal from the US, but adapted to the local context, and perhaps even raising ambition both on the science-based goals and the social justice demands.
From the US we counted with the participation (via teleconference) of Sunrise Movement -the youth-led movement building broad social support for the Deal-, and New Consensus, the think tank leading its co-creation. From Spain, we had a wide and diverse set of participating organizations and groups, including itd–UPM (Innovation and Technology for Development Center – Polytechnic University of Madrid), Youth For Climate Spain (Y4C) / Fridays for Future Madrid (FFFM), Comisión 8M Madrid, Feminismos Ingobernables, I Vote for Climate, Extinction Rebellion, Climate Reality Spain, Alliance for the Climate, Confederation of Consumers and Users (CECU), and various political parties on the national and European level.
Given the opportunity for change arising, SIC4Change we commit ourselves to catalyzing and facilitating the process ahead, and mobilizing the necessary resources to this end, with the collaboration of all interested groups and people alike. We will soon share an in-depth conclusions report and proposal for next steps with all participants as well as potential new ones, always seeking to maximize diversity, reach, and inclusiveness.
